PRX: Collagen-Boosting Resurfacing Without the Recovery Time
Ive recently started experimenting with MedSpa treatments and this is all still pretty new territory for me. For the longest time, I was firmly in the "my melanin is popping and that's all the skincare I need" era. I didn't want anything with a long ingredients list touching my face and didn't trust "bad toxins," and figured genetics would just carry me through.
Melanin is genuinely a bloody amazing gift (I mean, built in sun protection and slower visible aging, yes please!), but it doesn't mean our skin isn’t dealing with real everyday stuff like pollution, dehydration, collagen breakdown and stress. Melanin protects us from some things, but it's not a forcefield against everything, sadly.
I went into OrangeTwist wanting two things, the glow and a snatched face and after my consultation with Ashley she mentioned PRX would be a great fit for me. PRX is a needle free treatment that's actually gentle enough to not mess with pigment and I was curious enough to actually try it.

PRX has been one of my favourite treatments to recommend because it's a needle free (your girls screamish) peel that actually rebuilds your skin from the inside out with no peeling, little to no flaking, no hiding indoors for a week. But here's the thing, this isn't a once-and-done treatment. It's a process that requires four week commitment , and understanding the ‘why’ behind that process is what makes people actually stick with it and get those face snatching results they're after- so worth it. So now that Im done with the 4 week process, Im gonna hold yuour hand and break it down for you :)
Why Four Weeks, Specifically?
Your skin doesn't rebuild collagen overnight it takes cycles. Each session helps your skin to wake up and start producing and it takes about four consecutive weekly treatments to really get that collagen “factory” running at full speed and see the compounding effect. Think about it like compound interest for your face and each week builds on the last ones progress. Stop too early and you’re leaving gains on the table. That's why four weeks is the sweet spot, it's enough to see and feel the transformation, without over -treating skin that needs the time to actually respond.
The patchy look is old, sun damaged skin shedding to reveal fresher, lighter skin underneath. This is a normal, temporary stage on the way to a more even, brighter tone.
The Week-by-Week Breakdown
Week 1: The Reset
This first treatment is basically waking your skin up. I noticed a little glow almost immediately but honestly week one is more about prepping your skin and starting that collagen signal rather than instant “face card never declines” energy. Gotta be patient;)
Week 2: The Texture Shift
This is usually when you’ll start seeing pores look smaller, texture starts smoothing out, that dull skin look starts lifting (and slight flaking), and hydration retention improves. Your dead skin is shedding and slowly coming back to life.
Week 3: The Glow-Up
By week three, we're cooking baby:) Fine lines are softer, tone is more even, and those "did you get a facial or did you get some sleep?" comment starts rolling in. This is where the compounding effect really shows off.
Week 4: The Snatch
By week four, we've built enough collagen momentum that skin looks genuinely lifted, tightened, and bright with that "face snatched" finish (honestly you can start to see this at week three sllightly). Cheekbones look sharper, jawline looks cleaner, and the overall canvas just looks alive.
At Home After-Care
The treatment is only half the equation ,your at home routine protects and extends it. Hydrate like it's your job with a rich barrier repairing moisturizer morning and night, and don't forget that SPF, ever. Freshly stimulated skin is extra vulnerable to UV. Skip the actives too, no retinol or strong acids between sessions. And a gentle smoothing fluid in the evenings keeps cell turnover going without overdoing it.

Why We Wait 7 Days Before Your Next Session (Not (too much) Longer, Not Shorter)
Now you know I wanted to speed this up, esp with Fashion Week around the corner , but your skin needs that full week to complete its collagen building cycle. If you go back too soon you’re risking irritating skin that's still working. Waiting longer though and you lose momentum, the collagen response resets instead of building, kinda like going to the gym once a month instead of once a week. Weekly, consistent sessions for four weeks is what makes this treatment actually work.
How Long Does It Last and When Do You Come Back?
Your results typically hold for three to six months depending on your skin, lifestyle and at home care. Since collagen production naturally slows over time, a maintenance session every 4 to 6 weeks after your series is recommended. Think of it as topping off the tank before letting it run on empty.
At the end of the day supporting your skin is just giving it extra tools to repair, rebuild and glow, no matter your skin type or tone. Stick with the schedule, treat your skin gently at home, and by week four you'll understand exactly why I’m so happy I trusted Ashleys recommendation to decided to take the leap.
I documented the journey and the reels are available on my Instagram, but if you have any more questions you can always reach out to Ashley or book a consultation at an Orange Twist near you, they locations nation wide;)
