simple & calm: How I Transformed My Bathroom Into a Sanctuary
From plain and functional to a space that genuinely makes me exhale the moment I walk in and here's everything I did, and why it made all the difference.
Ive been giving my bathroom a little love since move in day 5 months ago, its been slow but i finally feel like its the space Ive been dreaming of. I wanted something more personal, a space that felt warm the moment I stepped in, that had texture and calm and just enough personality. Something that said spa without trying too hard.
Honestly? I'm so happy with how it turned out. Lets walk through it.
Setting the tone: the colour palette
I leaned into the neutral, earthy, soft palette feel (as I have done for the whole apartment). The walls stay a warm off-white (the apartment came that way, thats what sold me), with the dark slate grey floor tiles (don’t love this part, but it will work for now) and the marble effect shower surround. It's a combination that feels grounded, cool and modern at the same time.
The key was making sure nothing competed or clashed. Beige, cream, pale and slightly darker wood , everything in the same tonal family. The only real accent is the gold.
The vanity/counter top
The centrepiece of the whole room is the long double vanity in a gorgeous light wood finish. Having the double vanity was a game-changer for storage. Everything has a home now- beneath the counter for all my essentials, and on top for the every day essentials. Added storage baskets to keep it clean and organised, and they work great to hold extra hand towels as well. Bamboo apothecary jars for my cotton pads, cotton buds and toothpicks to stored beautifully and always on hand.
The shower: a marble moment
The marble-look in the shower came like that, and wouldnt have it any other way. Its floor to ceiling and it immediately makes the space feel luxurious and hotel like. Inside the niche, I keep a set of sleek matching dark pump refillable bottles to maintain the look (for the most part).
A small shelf in the shower holds a couple of pothos plants- these thrive in high humidity and tolerate low to indirect light, and purify the air by filtering toxins- cute and beneficial. The same goes for the snake plant and eucalyptus in the shower.
SHOWER ESSENTIALSThe earthy textures that tie it all together :)
If the colour palette sets the calm, the textures set the warmth. I leaned heavily into natural materials like woods, seagrass, rattan, bamboo, waffle-weave cotton etc and the look/feel is exactly what I was hoping for. Nothing feels cold or clinical.
Yes, I’m obsessed with everything in this bathroom and I know ill be doing some changes here and there when needed. The long vanity with its deep drawers means countertops stay clear (well, best I can). The shelving above the toilet holds spare rolls for easy access, as does the woven basket on the toilet with feminine products.
There's something genuinely lovely about getting ready in a bathroom where everything is where it should be and easy to find. It shifts the whole feeling of your morning and evening. Ive linked all my goodies here.
